Rin x Chubby!Reader (Request)

You were on your way home after school, walking all by yourself when you heard some shuffling and hushed whispers coming from behind you. You chose to keep walking assuming the worst, that it was a group after you again to torment you about your weight, yet you couldn’t help but try to listen in and figure out who was following you.

‘Come on, you have to do it now. The thing is only a couple of days away.’ To your surprise it was a male voice that spoke in a hushed, yet urgent manner.

‘But I can’t! What do I even say?’ Another male voice replied, this one seeming surprisingly familiar.

‘We’ve been over this already!’ The first voice said exasperatedly ‘I thought you were more manly than this. Just go do it, you might never get her alone again!’

You decided to end this whispered argument by turning to face the culprits themselves. To your surprise, you were greeted by your long-time friend, and crush, Rin and one of his swimming friends.

‘Rin! What are you doing here?’ You ask, a smile lighting up your face. ‘Oh and you know I could hear you guys talking back there.’

‘(y/n) hey! You could hear us? Now I feel like an idiot for real. Thanks for keeping it down Sosuke.’ He says, rubbing the back of his neck as a slight pink tinge covers his face.

‘So what is it you wanted to ask me?’ You curiously ask, wanting to know what he’s getting so worked up about.

‘Oh yeah! I was just wondering if you would like to go to the festival in Iwatobi this weekend.’ He says, his confidence once again returning just as yours leaves you.

‘What? Me? Why would you want to go with me?’ You say before you could even realize the words had left your mouth.

‘Why wouldn’t I want to go with you?’ He asks, a look of confusion crossing the red-head’s face.

“Because I’m chubby. And I’m not popular. I can’t be your type,” You think to yourself in response to his question, but you manage to keep these thoughts to yourself. ‘I don’t know, no reason I guess.’ You say.

‘So is that a yes?’ He says, his teeth flashing in a sharp grin.

‘If you insist.’ You say with a small giggle.

‘Perfect! I’ll get you at 5 on Saturday alright?’ He asks, happiness displayed in his features.

‘Sounds good to me.’ You respond, his happiness rubbing off on you.

It was finally the day you are supposed to go with Rin to the festival and you were happy, excited and nervous all at once. You were finally getting to go on a date with Rin and you couldn’t be more elated about that. Yet you couldn’t help but feel slightly inadequate because of your weight. Rin is a swimmer who has pretty much had a six pack since the day he was born while you on the other hand, well you could say you weren’t exactly skinny. You tried not to let it bother you as you flipped through your closet in an attempt to find something suitable to wear. You felt your mood slip slightly with each piece of clothing you discarded when finally you found just the thing. From the back of your closet, you pull out a beautiful kimono that you had bought years ago and all but forgotten about. It had swirling patterns in your two favorite colors and you couldn’t help but feel pretty as you slipped it on. Plus you had been told that it was slimming so that made you feel a bit better about your appearance. With your clothing settled, you moved on to your hair and make up to finish getting ready.

Just as you were putting the finishing touches on your outfit, you hear a knock on your door. You hurry to answer it, pulling the door open to reveal a casually, yet handsomely dressed Rin who smirks as he looks over your figure.

‘You look nice tonight (y/n)’ He says with a smile.

‘Oh thanks! So do you.’ You say returning his compliment ‘Well, we should get going.’

Together, the two of you head out to the part of town where the festival was being held. When you got there, you couldn’t help but stare in awe at all the fabulous decorations. There were tons of stalls all covered in lights that featured many different games, foods and merchandise. You immediately dragged Rin into the crowd of people, tugging him along as you flitted from stall to stall.

As the night progressed, the two of you had a great time. You played games together and Rin even managed to win you a stuffed (Fave animal) which you named RinRin, much to his embarrassment. You ate tons of food, wanting to try everything. And for once, you didn’t even think about the way you looked because you were having such and amazing time. It was getting late now, and Rin had pulled you away from the crowds to a hill so the two of you could watch the fireworks. You sat next to Rin on the hill, holding your new stuffed animal tightly in your lap, gazing up at the stars when suddenly he spoke.

‘Does this mean you’re be my girlfriend?’ He asks simply.

‘Huh, what are you talking about?’ You ask, your attention turning to him.

‘Well this was technically our first date, and I want to do this again.’ He says. ‘You are the most beautiful, fun, kind girl I have ever met. You’re nothing like all the other girls who focus on being skinny and popular. I like that about you.’

You are unsure what to say in response as a blush creeps across your face. Luckily, you were saved from further embarrassment by the start of the fireworks. Brightly colored explosions fill the sky as you watch in awe, your attention now drawn away from Rin. But his attention never left you. As the fireworks go off, his eyes remain on you, watching your facial expressions change as the various colored lights splash across your face. Carefully, he reaches out and grabs your hand, his fingers intertwining with yours. Your body tenses for a moment as you comprehend what is happening, your eyes still not leaving the sky. It feels so natural to have your hands together like this and you know that this exactly what you want.

‘Yes.’ Your voice comes out as a whisper.

‘What was that?’ Rin asks, his eyebrows knitting together in confusion.

‘Yes, I’ll be your girlfriend.’ You clarify.

And with that, a wide smile covers his face. Just then, the finale of the fireworks light up the sky, as if mimicking the emotions you both were feeling in that moment.
